Why think so much – Award Winning Accountant

I’m just in this Buddhist temple and some of the things you read are just so brilliantly precise now for our living today even though they were probably thought about many years ago.

So let me just read this to you. I want to have them rehearsed or memorize it. So I’m just going to read it. It says, “Thought after thought, so many thoughts. The mind has become confused. The thoughts are relentless. They keep coming and coming. The mind becomes iffy. The emotions invite even more thoughts. The thoughts are intoxicating. The mind has become dizzy. Leave those thoughts alone. No attachments. The mind is at peace. Why think so much?”

Now why do I think that was relevant to our living today? I think we’re just way too busy. There’s just too much to do. I know if I have to look at all the opportunities I have in front of me,we won awards last year again for the fifth year running and the opportunities that that brings is significant. Yet my coach, my mentor insists that I focus on one or two things a quarter, one or two things a month and do not move forward until I have conquered those one or two things, those opportunities.

That I think is so important in business. One of the things we bring on our Profit Multiplier Program is that focus. We focus on three projects a quarter and one project a month and then we focus on that project to the exclusion of all others, to make sure we get it done to move our business forward. It will either be in the area of increasing sales, increasing margins, increasing net profits, increasing cash flow, getting the team to work more efficiently, making the business more valuable, making it easier to run, making it more fun to run, making it more easy to sell, making it more valuable to sell.

It will be one of these – a few different areas. We identify what your focus is and then we bring those projects to bear on that. We focus on one thing at a time until it’s done. When it’s done, you will notice the impact immediately. So that’s the message for today from this Buddhist temple. I hope you find it somewhat intriguing if not useful in your business life.
