A few top tips on starting a business with limited funds..
Starting a business is hard, especially if you are going it alone, maybe as a sole trader. Many businesses started on very meagre funds. At Gordons Knight we specialise in helping new companies make the most of their money. We are Business Accountants in Croydon, and we want to help.
Here are a few top tips when starting your new company on stretched finances.
1. Take your time. If you dream of having a large successful company you have to realise this it is not going to happen overnight. By building your business slowly but surely you will create a good foundation for the future, and hopefully also attract strong solid customers.
2. Use Yourself! At the beginning of your company’s life you will have to do nearly all tasks and jobs yourself. In the future you will be able to hire someone to help. However, at the beginning you should be prepared to do your own filing, respond to all your customers… oh, and make the tea!
3. Make the most of free offers and Services. Marketing does not have to be expensive to be effective. We are in the age of Social Media, and it is mostly for free! Ensure you sign your business up to FaceBook, LinkedIn and Twitter. It’s a great way of generating business and letting people know what you are all about.
4. What are you good at doing? If you are good at doing something that people are prepared to pay for, then you are already a step ahead. Whether this is cooking, sewing, being a virtual assistant, put your talents to good use and let people know about them.
5. If you are selling a product, do people actually need it? If you start by selling something people need rather than want, it stands you in good financial stead. Impulse purchases are great, but times are hard for a lot of consumers. Your business has a better chance of survival if you keep your offerings simple and realistically priced.
